Boxing Viewership on ESPN

Will Top Rank avoid having Shakur Stevenson as the headliner moving forward?

With a peak audience of 1.1m viewers, Shakur Stevenson vs. Edwin De la Santos was not the slugfest that boxing fans were hoping for. Nevertheless, Shakur Stevenson has captured another world title in his young career. Does this make boxing pugilists want to see him more? Better yet, does this last performance push ESPN to bring more of Shakur Stevenson to their network?

Any major network hopes to have a pay-per-view (PPV) star.

Per his last performance, Stevenson is anything but a PPV star.

Bob Arum once said, "I could build a house in Beverly Hills on the money I've lost in the last three Crawford fights."

If that statement is true, it would behoove Bob Arum and ESPN to dick around and have Shakur headline a major card again. For viewership and relationship sake, Stevenson could fight as the co-main event with Jared 'Big Baby' Anderson or another marquee name. This is, of course, until Shakur can redeem himself or develop a fan-friendly fight style.
